THOMAS EGGERER
Visiting Lecturer on Visual and Environmental Studies

Eggerer was born in 1963 in Munich, Germany and studied painting at the Art Academy in Munich. In the mid-1990s, he collaborated with classmate Jochen Klein on a series of conceptually oriented projects dealing with questions of identity and public space. After his move to New York he joined Group Material, an artists’ collective, in the 1990s. He received a DAAD scholarship for Vermont College in 1994. One-person exhibitions have been mounted at Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne, in 1999, 2002, 2006, and 2009; Richard Telles, Los Angeles, in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2009; Frans Hals Museum, The Netherlands in 2009; Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, in 2002; Kunstverein Braunschweig in 2003; and at Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York, in 2004. His work has been included in the exhibitions The Undiscovered Country at the UCLA Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; Baja to Vancouver – The West Coast and Contemporary Art which traveled from the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, to the Vancouver Art Gallery and to the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts; deutschemalereizweitausenddrei at the Frankfurter Kunstverein; Hossa. Arte Aleman del 2000 at the Centro Cultural Andratx, Mallorca; Painting on the Move – Nach der Wirklichkeit at Kunsthalle Basel; snapshot – New Art from Los Angeles at the UCLA Hammer Museum and the Museum for Contemporary Art in Miami, Florida; Malerei at INIT Kunsthalle, Berlin; Eggerer/Klein at Printed Matter in New York; Market at Kunstverein Munich; Oh Boy, It’s a Girl! – Feminismen in der Kunst at Kunstverein Munich and Kunstraum Vienna; and Die Utopie des Designs, Kunstverein Munich; and Compass in Hand: Selections from the Judith Rothschuild Foundation Contemporary Drawings Collection at the the Musuem of Modern Art, New York, in 2009. Catalogs featuring his work have been published by the Kunstverein Braunschweig, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, Galerie Daniel Buchholz, and Augarten Contemporary in Vienna.
