Kerrigan is an Independent Spirit Award winner whose features Clean, Shaven; Claire Dolan; and Keane have been theatrically distributed worldwide and have shown at numerous international festivals including the main competition at Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, New York, Telluride and New Directors/New Films at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, winning numerous prizes. Kerrigan’s work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian’s Hirschhorn Museum, the American Museum of the Moving Image,
the annual convention of the American Psychiatric Association, and has been the subject of retrospectives in Torino, Buenos Aires, and Reykjavik. Kerrigan has served on the jury at numerous film festivals, including Rotterdam and Thessaloniki, and he has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation,
and the National Endowment for the Arts. All of Kerrigan’s films, including all future work, have been chosen for preservation by George Eastman House. Kerrigan is currently developing a documentary on the plight of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness caught up in the U.S. criminal justice system and their efforts to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives in a meaningful way. The film is a WETA (PBS) coproduction and multi-Emmy Award-winner Ken Burns and Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh are executive producing. He is also currently writing and attached to direct Thieves, a remake of André Téchiné’s Les Voleurs, for Warner Independent, and is writing and attached to direct an original screenplay about violence and retribution for Malofilms. As a still photographer, Kerrigan occasionally shoots fashion editorials (Helmut Lang, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Vivienne Westwood, etc.) for various French publications.
